| History |
Aklan?s leading citizens felt the need for an institution of higher learning for its young people in 1941. It was only in 1945, however, that concrete steps were taken to establish the Aklan College. Classes were held in a two storey building located at the corner of Pastrana (then named Plaridel) St. and 19 Martyrs St. Mr. Vicente Sales Reyes owned the building. The same also housed the college library. |
From the start of its operation until 1947, two SVD Priest ? Very Rev. Eugen L. Stoll and later Very Rev. Fr. Luis Creder, has administered the college. |
In June 1948, the College moved to its present campus in Archbishop Reyes St., beside the Kalibo Cathedral. The library was also transferred to the same site and was situated at the Ground floor of the newly occupied college building. More books and equipment were then acquired. |
A Filipino diocesan priest was designated as Rector, Msgr. Salvador M. Mabasa. A new three-storey building was constructed which formed the fa?ade of the College. It housed both the College and High School books and references until 1998. |
In 1999, a new high school building was built in a four-hectare lot in Andagao, Kalibo. The High School Library was also transferred to the new site. It also housed the resource materials of the College of Law, which had their classes in the High School campus. |
In June 2003, the College of Law transferred to the main campus in Archbishop reyes St. and correspondingly, the reference was returned to their original location in the College Library. |
